PUNE, May 28: Vadibel Anmol, the 30-year-old owner of a garment shop at Kasewadi slums in Bhavani Peth, was early today morning done to death in a most savage manner by one of the tailors employed by him.

The murder was witnessed by another employee Dhansingh Somnath Pardeshi, (42) who watched in shock as his colleague Sikandar alias Mohammed Ashraf Jafar Hussain, bashed the shop owner’s head with a boulder killing him instantaneously. Anmol was fast asleep when Sikandar attacked him,

Sub-Inspector Devidas Ghevare, who is investigating the case, said. Attempts to apprehend Sikandar by Dhansingh and other residents bore no fruits as the alleged killer fled taking advantage of the darkness and the chaos that ensued, he added.

Anmol, who hailed from Mangalore in Karnataka, had been running the Citizens’ Menswear garment shop at Kasewadi for the last five years. While his family stayed at Mangalore, he resided at his shop along with his employees.

Sikandar, who hails from Mustafabad in Uttar Pradesh, was employed by Anmol on contract basis from May 5. As per the terms of the contract, Dhansingh said, Anmol was to pay commission for every garment stitched by Sikandar on weekly basis.

Sikandar was annoyed with Anmol when the latter refused to pay money as an advance toward his remuneration three days ago, Dhansingh said. An enraged Sikandar had allegedly threatened to kill Anmol during the course of an ensuing quarrel. However, Anmol had not taken the threat seriously, he added.

Meanwhile, Inspector Vishwas Patil of Khadak police station has launched a manhunt to track down Sikandar. Anmol’s body has been kept at the morgue of the Sassoon Hospital while a police team has been sent to Mangalore to fetch his relatives.
