The West Bengal government today claimed that its investigating agencies have found ‘‘some very important clues’’ on the theft of Tagore’s Nobel citation, medal and other valuables. Disclosing this to mediapersons today, state home secretary Amit Kiran Deb added: ‘‘Considering the national and international significance of the case, we sought the CBI’s help.’’ Deb said he dispatched a formal letter to the Centre on Sunday afternoon, requesting CBI assistance. Asked if the state government would also seek Interpol’s help, he said: ‘‘So far we haven’t got any clues of foreign links.’’

Deb claimed that his department have advised the managements of institutions of national and international importance, preserving heritage, priceless documents of history to be more vigilant on the security aspect. According to the Home Department, the managements of the Asiatic Society, National Museum, Rabindra Bharati and Victoria Memorial have been conveyed the message.
