October 22: Syntel India Ltd, a fully-owned subsidiary of US-based software company Syntel Inc, is to invest Rs 300 crore in order to set up its global export base in Maharashtra.
The company has sought a 30 acre plot at Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s (MIDC) Talawade InfoTech Park near Pune, a senior MIDC official told PTI here today.
Syntel, owned by a NRI Bharat Desai, already has two export-oriented units — in SEEPZ Mumbai’s export zone, and in Chennai.
Earlier, the software company was planning to set up the development base in Hyderabad, but MIDC offered a better proposition hence the investment, the official said.
The Talwade plot, which comes under Mumbai-Pune Knowledge corridor, would also facilitate employment for 5,000 software professionals apart from export of software.
A three phased project, Syntel plans to invest Rs 30 crore in inventories and Rs 68 crore in the construction of the centre.
Syntel Ltd provides application management and technology consulting services to the American International Group, Dayston Hudson and DaimlerChrysler among others.
Bangalore-based software major Wipro Ltd and Kanbay International too have booked their plots in the park, the officer added. The 190 acre IT park has a 32 MBPS dedicated earth station set up by Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd and 600 dedicated telephone lines by Pune Telecom Exchange.
