Visakhapatnam, March 27: Everything went in accordance with the expectations as the fancied pugilists moved into pre-quarterfinals in the 45th Senior National Boxing Championships at Police Stadium here today. Services and Railway boxers were the centre of attraction and most of the bouts involving these boxers proved to be one-sided.

In what can be termed as the most exciting fight of the day, Suresh Singh of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) outboxed Assam’s Babul Gurh in light fly category. Suresh, the National Games and YMCA champion this year, opted just to dodge for the first few moments and reading the rival’s movements, unleashed a combination of right and left jabs that left Babul staggering. Referee had to intervene to avoid further humiliation to Babul. Andhra Pradesh’s G Nooka Raju was equally impressive as he treated Tripura’s M Chakraborthy with utter disdain. Bolstered by the vociferous local support, Nooka Raju cornered the rival as soon as he entered the ring and there was no scopefor Chakravarthy to rejuvenate himself.
