GEB officers promoted
Nineteen senior officers of the Gujarat Electricity Board have been promoted, while some more promotion orders are expected to be issued shortly. According to an official release, chief engineer of the Gandhinagar Thermal Power Station P M Shah has been promoted to executive director Planning and Projects, Vadodara head office.

Chief engineer distribution, Vadodara, P C Patel has been promoted to executive director materials and transmission, head office, Vadodara.

General manager finance, Vadodara, P K Das will now be executive director finance, main office, while executive director materials and transmission C P Mehta has been appointed executive director generation.

Apart from them, 16 additional chief engineers and superintending engineers have been promoted to chief engineers and additional chief engineers respectively.

Power theft
The Gujarat Electricity Board GEB has detected power theft to the tune of Rs 1.22 crore from May 19 to May 25 during surprise checks conducted in various parts of the State. According to an official release, out of the 16,064 connections checked, power theft was detected in 303 cases and irregularities in 130 cases.

Property attached
The Vadodara sub-regional office of the Employees8217; Provident Fund Organisation has attached all immovable assets of M/s Topeline Shoes Limited, village Dabhasa in Padra taluka, and declared it as a major defaulter.

1-day symposium
The Association of Excise and Customs Practitioners of Vadodara is organising a one-day symposium-cum-seminar on Implications of the Union Budget of 1998-99 on Central Excise and Customs8217; on Wednesday. The function will be inaugurated by Commissioner of Central Excise and Customs S K Bhardwaj.

Caught ticketless
As many as 45,299 passengers were caught in May for travelling without tickets. In an official release isssued here on Monday, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Manager Manmohan Singh said that the Vadodara division of the Western Railways recovered an amount of Rs 54 lakhs as penalty from them.

Air play
The Ahmedabad-Vadodara station of All India Radio will broadcast a play Saachi Moodi written by city-based senior journalist Vinod Thanki of Lokasatta on Tuesday at 9.15 p.m.

Protest
Members of the All-India Students8217; Organisation AIDSO will protest against the decision of the MSU authorities to hike developmental fees. The members have said that the hike in the fees varied from Rs 200-Rs 300 per semester depending upon various faculties. They said that students coming from financially backward classes would not be able to pay the increased fees.
