Mayor, civic officials visit ward
Led by Mayor Savita Sharda, elected representatives of the Surat Municipal Corporation visited ward no 1 to get first-hand account of the problems faced by the residents. Sharda was accompanied by deputy mayor Snehlataben Chauhan, leader of house in the SMC Natu Soma Patel, water committee chairman Balubhai Limbachiya, law committee chairperson Ranjanben Patel, leader of the zone Raju Godiwala and senior official R D Desai.
Congress charge
Congress Councillor and city secretary Bhupendra Solanki has accused civic officials of harassing residents of Limbayat. In a statement issued on Wednesday, he alleged that the civic officials were imposing a Rs 200- administrative charge on residents at the behest of the ruling BJP. Stating that the administrative charge can be collected only from shopkeepers, he alleged that the SMC had fined 60 residents.
Music concert
The Vidarbha Natya Sanstha, Surat, has organised Bhavsargam8217;, a musical concert by noted singer Hridaynath Mangeshkar at Gandhi Smruti Hall at 8.30 pm on Friday. He will sing songs and gazals in Hindi and Marathi songs.
27 arrested
Vadodara: Twenty-seven residents of Suliyad and surrounding villages, all members of the same community, were arrested by the Panchmahals police on Wednesday in connection with Tuesday8217;s mob violence over a minor issue. Stating that three members of another community were yet to be arrested, District Collector A K Rakesh said police personnel were still present in the village to maintain peace.
