Pagers for police now
City police officers will now be provided with pagers. At a meeting organised jointly by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Easy Call paging services at Samruddhi, Police Commissioner Kuldip Sharma said introduction of pagers in the city police force will go a long way in the friendly policing concept.

Sharma said while pagers were successfully implemented in Vadodara, the situation prevailing here was different. Vadodara has 13 police chowkies and 104 beats while Surat had 69 chowkies and 229 beats.

Cong convention
AICC general secretary and in-charge Gujarat Affair Madhavrao Scindia, AICC treasurer Ahmed Patel, former chief minister Amarsinh Chaudhary, among others, would attend the South Gujarat Congress Convention to be held on March 24 at Ambedkar Statue, Ring Road. Congress MP from Mandvi Chhitubhai Gamit will also attend the convention, besides, Congress workers from Dangs, Navsari and other parts of South Gujarat. At 5.30 pm, Scindia will address a press conference at Circuit House, Gujarat Pradesh Congress CommitteeVice-president Kadir Pirzada said.

Blood donation8217;
Surat MP Kashiram Rana was weighed in blood at a function organised at Pandesara by Gujarat Housing Board Yuvak Mandal, Nividha Sarvajanik Trust, Pandesara Mahila Gruh Udyog Sahakari Mandali and Pandesara Shakbhaji Sahakari Mandali. As much as 435 bottles of blood was collected during the programme. Rana weighed 110 kg. The organisers said donors would be insured for five years under the Janata Personal Accident Policy. The organisers will pay the premium. Water Supply Minister Narottambhai Patel, chairman of Gujarat Municipal Finance Board and Olpad MLA Dhansukh Patel were among those who attended the function.

Khadi show
The 13-day exhibition-cum-sale, organised by the Khadi Gram Udyog at Athwaline party plot, will close on March 24, at 11 pm.
