
Medical tests on highway
The Traffic police will carry out medical check up of drivers after two months to reduce the number of highway accidents. The announcement was made by District Collector R M Shah, while addressing the meeting of the Surat District Road Safety Council meeting held here on Thursday. Shah also directed the RTO and traffic police to jointly crackdown on three-wheelers using kerosene. RTO K M Patel said a fine of Rs 3.21 lakh was recovered from 190 overloaded vehicles in October. Also, a fine of Rs 38,164 was recovered from vehicle owners carrying passengers illegally, while Rs 1.38 lakh in fine was recovered from owners for pollution.
Machine donated
Sahajanand Laser Technology has donated a Laser machine, worth Rs 10 lakh, to the Indian Diamond Institute. Managing Director of Sahajanand Laser Technology Dheerajlal Kothari was felicitated at a function addressed by assembly speaker Dheerubhai Shah for the donation.
New wing
Parijat Medical Hospital8217;s new wing, with x-ray, sonography, echocardiography and pathology laboratory units, will be inaugurated on November 29 at 9 am. The hospital is in Adajan Patia.

Union Textiles Minister Kashiram Rana will inaugurate Shree Chhaya,8217; a new building of Shree Surati Modh Vanik Urban Co-operative Credit Society Limited, on November 22 at 9.30 am.
SCC8217;s appeal
The Surat Citizens8217; Council has asked those who have invested in schemes of the Anubhav Group to send in papers of their deposits and amount of money invested in the group to its office in Tirupati Plaza, Nanpura. The council, in a statement issued here, said it will hold a meeting shortly to decide the future course of action.
