DEC 20: DHULE: THE State government has consented to the carving out of a separate Nandurbab district in Dhule district to boost the development of tribals in the area, Chief Minister Manohar Joshi said at Jalgaon today. He was addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the headquarters of the Tap Irrigation Development Board (TIDB) here. Referring to the irrigation scenario in Khandesh, the Chief Minister said that farmers in Dhule, Jalgaon and Nashik districts must get the full benefit of the TIDB project in order to increase their farm production. He appealed to the people to purchase TIDB bonds, distribution of which would begin from January 26 ’98, in order to do away with the problem of funds for the scheme. Joshi also performed the bhoomipujan of the proposed stadium on the Jalgaon police parade ground.
Film fest for children from Dec 24
MUMBAI: The Fun Film Festival `97 for children will be held at the Plaza Theatre from December 24-30, 1997. The films to be screened are Casper (December 24), Babe (December 25), Flinstones (December 26), Beethoven (December 27), Phantom (December 28), Beethoven II (December 29), Problem Child (December 30). The films will screened at 9:00 am daily.
Exhibition on merits of yoga
A three-day exhibition to depict the usefulness of yoga in today’s world will be organised by the Yoga Institute from December 24-26, 1997. The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Governor of Maharashtra P C Alexander. The Yoga Institute has also organised a symposium on Yoga for “Sane Living” at Bhaidas Auditorium. The symposium will be inaugurated by the Dalai Lama.

Compensation to seaman’s family
In what could be termed the highest natural death compensation given, the family of seaman Laldhari Vishwa Karma was given a sum of Rs 5.75 lakh. Karma an employee with the Shipping Corporation of India died while on duty of a heart attack.
