Orissa HC orders CBI probe into Anjana Mishra cases
CUTTACK: The Orissa High Court on Friday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to inquire into all cases related to Anjana Mishra, the estranged wife of an Indian Forest Service Officer. A division bench comprising Chief Justice S N Phukan and Justice Arijit Pasayat, while entrusting the investigation to CBI, said the court’s order was not a reflection on the investigation carried out so far by the State police. However, in view of the complicated nature of the cases, with no clear picture emerging so far, it is fit to hand the investigation over to the CBI, the court observed.
MP’s solution to canopy controversy
NEW DELHI: Syed Shahabuddin, MP, has suggested erecting a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the front courtyard of the Rashtrapati Bhavan to put an end to the controversy over the canopy at India Gate, in his letter to prime minister I K Gujral. He has also supported the plea by the Conservation Society of Delhi against the move to shift the canopy at the India Gate in order to install a statue of Gandhi on the site.
Dog bites 9 spotted deer to death
UDHAGAMANDALAM: Nine spotted deer and a sambhar in the deer park here died after being bitten by a stray dog, which sneaked into the park maintained by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department here, recently. The district Forest officer of Nilgiris South division told newsmen on Friday that a spotted deer and sambhar were found dead in the park on July 28. It was found that both had been bitten by a dog. Eight more spotted deer were found dead the next day and all bore the same dog bite marks.
Bid to flush out ultras from Manipur
IMPHAL: Security forces have begun a massive operation in Manipur to uproot underground camps and to flush out armed extremists from the State, official sources said on Friday. Security forces had located different underground camps following interrogations of arrested armed guerrillas. It was not, however, revealed which underground camps had been located by the security forces but several insurgents belonging to United National Liberation Front (UNLF), People’s Liberation Army (PLA), NSCN (both I-M and Khaplang factions) and Kuki underground groups had been arrested in the past few weeks.
Bhrigu Phukan’s suspension ratified
GUWAHATI: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) central committee meeting on Friday ratified the decision of the steering committee to suspend former Home Minister and sitting MLA Bhrigu Phukan from the party. The meeting, chaired by party president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, took the decision unanimously, a party spokesman said.
