NEW DELHI: The CBI officer investigating the disappearace of Sashi Nath Jha — secretary of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MP Shibu Soren — on Thursday tendered an unconditional apology to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Prem Kumar. Yashbir Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police (CBI), said he was under the wrong impression that the accused, Sunil Kumar Khaware (who was in CBI custody), was to be produced on December 12, whereas, he was to be produced on December 11. He said as soon as he was informed of his mistake he rushed to the court with the accused. CMM Prem Kumar told the CBI officer to be more careful.

Malegaon civic body ex-chief shot at

NASHIK: Former president of the Malegaon Municipal Council, Shaikh Rashid Shaikh Shafi, was shot at on Kidwai Road in Malegaon on Friday night. According to a complaint filed by Shaikh Rashid at the City Police station, a gangster, Aziz Lallu, fired a round at him, while he was travelling in an autorickshaw on Kidwai Road last night around 11.15 p.m. Rashid escaped unhurt.

Hearing in Anjana Mishra case adjourned

CUTTACK: The Orissa High Court has adjourned the hearing on Anjana Mishra’s plea for cancellation of bail granted to state advocate general Indrajeet Roy by a lower court, till January 16 next. Acting on a petition filed by Mishra, the extranged wife of an Indian Forest Service officer, Justice Arijit Pasayat on Friday directed the opposite parties to file objection, if any, before January 12 next.

Six-member family commits suicide

HYDERABAD: In a suicide pact, six members of a family ended their lives by consuming soft drinks mixed with pesticide at Wanaparthy town in Mahboobnagar district of Andhra Pradesh, police said today. Police suspect that the family, which had recently celebrated the marriage of their eldest daughter, apparently took the extreme step last Thursday due to financial burdens.

Irate mob gherao police station

MUZAFFARNAGAR: An irate mob today gheraoed the Bhopa police station and blocked the traffic following the recovery of the body of a 15-year-old school boy, Vikas, who had been kidnapped from Athai village a few days ago. The agitated people were protesting against the alleged police apathy in the kidnapping case. PAC and police had to be rushed to the Bhopa police station to control the situation. According to a police report, Vikas was kidnapped last week and the kidnappers apparently killed him, when they did not not receive the ransom.
