MUMBAI, July 3: A Windfall of goals marked Gulf Oil’s sponsorship of the WIFA football leagues. Two matches today produced as many as 13 goals State Bank of India (SBI) trouncing fancied Tipu Sultan 6-2 in the Senior Division preceded by Bombay Port Trust (BPT) outplaying Good Shepherd 4-1 in the First Division on a soggy Cooperage ground, today.
The ageing bankmen upset all calculations on a quagmire that placed the onus on strength and stamina to dumbfound their youthful opponents.
They led 3-2 at half-time after the lead was exchanged and broke clear after Tipu Sultan’s defence collapsed after the interval.
Aqueel Ansari shot Tipu Sultan ahead in the third minute after goalkeeper Biplab Roy slipped but Harish Poojary levelled in the 19th minute before Bhoir tapped home from a corner to put the Bank ahead.
Seconds later Tipu Sultan made it 2-2 through Musthaque only for SBI to regain the lead in the 40th minute through mainstay Hasmukh Baria who blasted home from Faisal Ansari’s cross.
Jayant Sinha from a flag-kick, Shakeel Ahmed from the spot and Bhoir slotting home into an open goal with Arshad Ansari way out of his line, completed the rout.
Three goals by Nasir Ahmed and one by Joseph helped BPT to a comprehensive 4-1 win over Good Shepherd who netted through Francis Alvares.

CHEMBUR ENGLISH UP: Chembur English outgunned Don Bosco Oratory 4-1 in the penalty shootout to make the semifinals of the JC Maitra Cup football tournament being held under the auspices of the Mumbai Division Football Association (MDFA).
In today’s quarter-final at the St Xavier’s Ground, Parel, the sides played out a goalless regulation period which brought on the tie-breaker. The winners’ marksmen were S Santosh, Ashwin Martis, T Perreira and Thomas Lonattan while Namdev Chinkate was Don Bosco’s lone success.
