Javagal Srinath returns to the Indian Test team just months after announcing his retirement from Test cricket.
S K Nair, honorary secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, stated that Srinath had written to the Board that he would like to reconsider his decision to quit Test cricket.

He had also made himself available for the series against West Indies. The five selectors, with Brijesh Patel in the chair, met this afternoon along with Indian team coach John Wright and picked fourteen players who would do duty in the first two Tests against the West Indies in Mumbai (Oct 9 to 13) and Chennai (Oct 17 to 21).
