CHANDIGARH, Oct 20: To commemorate the 100th anniversary of automotive manufacturing by Opel Adam AG, General motors India Limited today launched the "Opel 100", a special edition of Opel Astra, in Chandigarh.

The special edition, with added features at an extra cost of Rs 34,000 than the normal model, is available in an exclusive colour – El Paso- a bronze tone in mica-metallic finish. It will also have a special "Opel 100" badging on the fenders, which have been developed by Opel, Germany.

Launching the special edition here, General motors senior regional manager Sanjeev Garg disclosed that Opel would be unveiling its middle-segment car — Corsa — within the next two months. Coming out in two versions of 1400 and 1600 cc, and priced competitively with Esteem, Ikon, Honda City and Accent, the car would give good competition to the existing cars in this section, said Garg. The company is also tying with Suzuki to introduce sports utility vehicles, modalities for which have to be worked out. Opel already has a market share of 13 per cent in the premium segment.
