RANCHI, NOV 15: Undeterred by the Congress’ refusal to back efforts to instal a secular government in Jharkhand, RJD president Laloo Prasad Yadav and JMM chief Shibu Soren today vowed to pull down the NDA government of Babulal Marandi when it seeks a vote of confidence in the Assembly.

“The poor Adivasis, Muslims and Christians will join hands to install a secular government in Jharkhand,” Soren addressing a public meeting alongside Laloo Prasad Yadav near the Birsa Munda Chowk here, shortly after he had garlanded the tribal leader’s statue on his 125th birth anniversary.

Alleging that the NDA had humiliated the tribals of the state by denying him chief ministership, he said “Days of the NDA government are numbered and I have not given up hope of becoming chief minister to fulfil long-cherished aspirations of the people.”

Soren said that he would continue efforts to dislodge Marandi’s government with the help of other like-minded secular parties. He also announced that he would be organising a rally shortly to protest against the Governor’s action of inviting Marandi to form the government.

In his speech, Yadav urged the people to put up a united fight to topple the NDA Government “if you want the Jharkhand of your dreams to turn into a reality.” He alleged that the NDA Government was a step towards “mafia rule” in the state and urged people to work for its elimination.

The response of the people present at the meeting was lukewarm. “Chor-chor mausere bhai” (thief-thief are cousin brothers) was the instant comment of astudent, Sudarshan Kumar at the Chowk.

“The NDA doesn’t have majority in the new Assembly and we are sure that the Government will not survive the trust vote,” Yadav later said before leaving for Patna. Governor Prabhat Kumar has asked Marandi to prove his majority on the floor of the house by December 1.

Soren, while staking his claim to form a government, had submitted a list of 36 MLAs, JMM-12, RJD-9, Congress-11, CPI-2, CPI-ML(L)-one and the Marxist Coordination Committee-one, to Governor Prabhat Kumar. He also claimedsupport of nine more MLAs in the 81-member house.

Marandi submitted a list of 44 MLAs, BJP-32, Samata-5, JD(U)-3, Independent-3, Nominated-one. After verifying claims of the two sides, Kumar invited Marandi to form the government.

“We have defeated the communal government led by Nitish Kumar in undivided Bihar and we are capable to force the exit of Marandi ministry,” Yadav said. Even MLAs of Samata and JD(U) are in touch with us and if required we will seek their help to defeat NDA, he said.

Yadav said the RJD, Congress, JMM-S and Left parties would also launch an agitation to protest against the “unconstitutional and biased” decision of the Governor to invite Maranadi to form a government.
