Congress president Sonia Gandhi continued to be in hospital for the fourth day on Friday and her condition was described as being stable.

Sonia Gandhi, who is suffering from chest infection, is making steady progress. Her condition is stable. She has been advised to continue her rest,” said B K Rao, Chairman of Board of Sir Gangaram Hospital, where she was admitted on January one.

“She is continuing rest,” he said.

Rao denied reports that the UPA Chairperson was suffering from Pneumonitis, which is an inflammation of lung tissue.

“She is suffering from chest infection and not pneumonitis. This report is baseless,” he said.

However, the hospital did not specify when Gandhi was expected to be discharged.

The 61-year-old Gandhi, who was admitted to hospital after she complained of breathing difficulty, underwent a CAT scan on Thursday and it was normal.
