
Hosts Sonepat pushed Rohtak to the second position in a tough challenge for the overall position in the 22nd Haryana State Games which concluded at the Partap Stadium of sprawling Motilal Nehru Sports School Complex here on Monday. Sonepat emerged winners in 10 different sports disciplines while Rohtak clinched nine trophies. However, they were tied with 73 points apiece.
Ravinder and Anu, both of Sonepat, were adjudged the best athletes, Sonepat men and women dominated the track and field events as they were declared champions in both categories in the discipline known as the 8216;king of events8217;.
Bhiwani and Kurukshetra finished second and third with 58 and 38 points respectively.
Haryana Police lifted the women8217;s freestyle team trophy with 22 points in the wrestling competitions of the 22nd Haryana State Games at the Subhash Stadium. Bhiwani and Rohtak claimed silver and bronze with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Internationally acclaimed Babita, who won silver medal in Junior World Championship in China in 2007 impressed in her bout against Shilpi of Hisar in the 55 kg final freestyle bout.
Hosts Sonepat prevailed over Bhiwani by just one point to win the team trophy in the men8217;s freestyle competitons. Bhiwani got 14 points for silver while Jhajjhar were third with 12 points. Jhajjar emerged champions in the Greeco-Roman style as they collected 21 points for the trophy. Rohtak will take home the runners-up trophy with 15 points. Sonepat also secured 15 points but on technical ground they were pushed to third position. Haryana Governor Dr AR Kidwai was the chief guest and distributed the prizes. The next Haryana State Games will be held in Rohtak
