With the DMK MPs threatening to resign demanding Government of India8217;s intervention to safeguard the interest of Tamils in Sri Lanka, crisis managers of the ruling Congress have swung into action. External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Friday discussed the situation with Union Minister and DMK leader T R Baalu, who left for Chennai in the evening to brief party chief and state Chief Minister M Karunanidhi about the steps taken by the UPA Government to address their concerns.
According to Congress sources, a solution would be found before the deadline of October 28 when the DMK MPs have threatened to resign.
Tamil Nadu Pradesh Congress Committee president K V Thangkabalu told The Indian Express here: 8220;How can Karunanidhi bring down the UPA Government when he himself is a senior leader of the UPA? The UPA Government is taking all possible steps to address the DMK8217;s concerns.8221;
8220;The situation today is different from what it was yesterday. The Prime Minister has already expressed concern about the Lankan situation and the issue has been taken up with the Lankan Government. We are the only party, which made a supreme sacrifice for the cause of Tamils. We are expecting that the Government of India will take appropriate steps to safeguard the interest of the Tamil community there,8221; said Thangkabalu.
