VADODARA, May 3: In a unique welfare measure planned, the Vadodara rural police has resolved to grant soft loans to wards of constables for admission to professional courses like medical, engineering and management as well as higher education from the coming academic session.
Addressing reporters here on Monday, District Superintendent of Police Shamsher Singh said the loan would include admission expenses as well as recurring expenditure required for the purpose. The loan would be completely interest-free and repayable in easy installments, he said.
Meanwhile, a computer training centre and a carrier guidance cell for children of rural police was launched at the police headquarters on Sunday. As many as 40 students have been admitted in the first batch of computer training course, he said, adding the course had received good response and 20 candidates were on the waiting list.
Singh said arrangements for preparing children for medical and engineering courses would also be made soon.
Justifying the launching of these welfare measures, he said policemen posted in rural areas were facing difficulty and were under stress because of neglect of their children and unemployment in their family. He said this even lead to suicide in extreme cases, adding a constable of the Special Reserve Police force ended his life on Sunday out of frustration.
