
Castrol HONDA8217;S Aaron Slight and Ducati8217;s Carl Fogarty took a win each in Round Four of the World Superbike Championship at Hockenheim in Germany on Sunday.
Slight dominated the opening 14-lap race, edging out team-mate John Kocinski with two corners to go on the final lap. The New Zealand rider made the early running and led to the 11th lap when Kocinski took over. With one lap to go Slight was confident of overhauling his team-mate and tailed the American throughout the final 4.22 miles.
On the entry to the stadium section for the final time, Slight made his move, outbreaking Kocinski to take his third win in seven races. American Yamaha rider Scott Russell pipped a trio of Ducatis 8212; Carl Fogarty, Pier Francesco Chill and Neil Hodgson 8212; for third place.
Race two was won by Fogarty. A thrilling nine-machine battle was the highlight of a second encounter. Fogarty, Hodgson, Slight, Akira Yanagawa. Simon Crafar and Russell all led, but Hodgson looked favourite.
With three laps to go, Slight attempted to increase his pace but disaster struck at the first chicane. Slight was forced down as he went in late on the brakes and almost hit race leader Neil Hodgson.
Heading for the stadium on the last lap it was Fogarty who took take the lead and held on for his second win of the year.
