HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY 17: Six members of a gang, including a head constable, involved in a fake currency racket were arrested at Sheriguda village in Rangareddy district on Wednesday.

Police arrested six members of the 12-member gang, including two policemen and seized Rs 75,000 from them, Rangareddy District Superintendent of Police, Surendra Babu said on Thursday.

The gang would first gain the confidence of the people by giving original currency notes saying they were `fake’ notes, the SP said adding that after getting the currency notes from the gang, people used to approach gang members with more notes for exchange.

However, after the process of exchange, the two policemen used to conduct a `raid’ on the houses of those who had taken the fake notes and seize the money, he said.

Babu said the gang, which cheated Rs 6.5 lakh from ten people, was involved in ten cases out of which eight cases had been registered in Rangareddy district and the other two in Hyderabad.

Efforts were on to nab the six other gang members including another head constable who were at large, the SP said.
