Sikkim protem speaker sworn in

Gangtok, Oct 14: Palden Lama was today sworn-in as protem speaker as the sixth Sikkim assembly begins its first session tomorrow with the administering of oaths to the new members and the election of the speaker and the deputy speaker.

Lama was sworn-in by Governor Chaudhury Randhir Singh at a brief and simple ceremony at Raj Bhawan here.

The Governor would also address the newly constituted house. Discussion on the Governor’s address would be taken up on Saturday, assembly sources said.

The ruling SDF would field Kalawati Subba as speaker, the first woman to hold the post in the state and Palden Lama as her deputy in the house.
