Signature campaign in Nagpur for varsity

In the meeting, which was presided over by Advocate SW Dhabe, it was decided that it was pertinent to bring the sentiments of the people of Vidarbha to the notice of the Governor, the Chancellor of all Universities in the State.Apprehensions were raised that the State Government may come out with an ordinance declaring the setting up of the medical university at Nashik, during the oncoming monsoon session of the State Assembly which is to commence from June 22. The committee decided that a memorandum would be submitted to allthe MLAs from Vidarbha to oppose the ordinance. The MLAs will be also requested to follow up the resolution of the Vidarbha Statutory Development Board, regarding setting up of the university in Nagpur.

Professor Haribhau Kedar, former vice-chancellor of the Nagpur University, told The Indian Express that the office bearers of the committee will go to Mumbai to have a talk with the leaders of the main political parties, with a view to create an all-party stand on the issue. The committee plans to meet the leaders of the Congress, BJP, Shiv Sena, Samajwadi Party, Republican Party, Shetkari Kamgar Sena and other parties.
