BANGALORE, MARCH 20: Siddharth Jain won his maiden international title, winning the men’s singles event of the US dollar 10,000 French Open Badminton Championships, which concluded in Paris on Sunday.
Siddharth, ranked 64th in the world, beat Jacek Niedzwiecki of Poland 17-14,15-6 in the finals to wrest the title, according to a press release from Badminton Association of india here on Monday.
On his way to the title, Siddharth beat Pavel Mecar of Slovakia 15-0, 15-2, Mike Joppien of Germany 15-8,15-3, Wacha Przcmyslaw of Poland 15-9, 9-15,15-5 and Jens Roch of germany 15-7, 15-6.
Top seed Nikhil Kanetkar lost to Jens Roch of Germany in the quarters in three close games 15-5, 7-15, 12-15. Jens Roch had been Indian junior National champion Chetan Anand 15-5,15-4 in the pre-quarters. Nikhil beat Ghaffar Amir (England) 15-5,15-3 and Nabil Lasmari (France) 15-12, 15-6 in his previous matches.
Abhin, India’s No. 2 and ranked 78th in the world, lost to Finnish veteran Pontus Jaanti in the quarters 6-15, 15-5, 13-15. Abhin beat Robert Kwee of Holland 15-8, 15-6 and Andrew South of England 15-5, 15-10.
