A key eyewitness to the recent blast in the Shramjeevi Express, Amarnath Choubey, who had helped the UP police and the Special Task Force draw sketches of the accused, died at Safdurjung hospital here on Saturday.
Sharad, his younger brother, alleged that the hospital staff did not even help him move Amarnath’s body to the mortuary this afternoon.
He also criticised Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav and the UP government for doing littler for his brother who had given vital leads to the police. ‘‘The police came and grilled my brother at the Jaunpur Hospital for more than three hours. The Railway Minister came, offered help, and so did Mulayam Singh Yadav who gave a cheque of Rs 50,000. But when in dire need of medical attention, my brother was left to fend for himself,’’ Sharad said.
Amarnath was brought to Delhi by a special train on July 30 for treatment as he had sustained 70 per cent burns.
