Sampras rolls into 4th round
Former champions Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi cruised into the fourth round today at the $14 million US open championships. Sampras, the top seed, breezed past Sweden’s Mikael Tillstrom, 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 in the last match of the day on centre court to move into a matchup with Russian teenager Marat Safin. Last year, Sampras was beaten in the fourth round by Petr Korda of the Czech Republic in a fifth-set tiebreaker.

Bagan in final
Mohun Bagan, Calcutta set up yet another KBL Federation Cup title clash against city rivals East Bengal, defeating Mohameddan Sporting 2-1 in the semi-final today. For Bagan, it was a satisfying revenge after having lost to Sporting in a Calcutta Super Division League match less than a month ago.

Jones’ team wins
Former Australian Test cricketer Dean Jones’ team won the Royal Palms Golf and Country Club and Tata Safari clash of Champions Celebrity Golf tournament today, defeating Kapil Dev’s team. In the match-play of over 18 holes, the Dean Jones’ team won by 19 points to 7.5 points.
