Sachin Tendulkar has accepted the India captaincy, thus ending all speculations of his unwillingness to take on the mantle from veteran Mohammed Azharuddin, it was announced by cricket board president Raj Singh Dungarpur today. "Sachin spoke to me around 1.00 p.m. and said he was accepting the India captaincy. That puts an end to all speculations, I suppose," Dungarpur told PTI when contacted at his residence.

Bhupathi fit
World number two doubles player Mahesh Bhupathi, who has been out of play with an abdomen injury, will rejoin the circuit at the ATP Super Nine Hardcourt meet in Cincinatti starting on August 9. Bhupathi, who won the coveted Wimbledon doubles title partnering Leander Paes last month, was forced to skip the Mercedes Benz Cup at Los Angeles and tour events at Istanbul and Stuttgart because of the injury.

No betting
Betting and match-fixing were unimaginable in Indian cricket and no Indian player was involved in such practices, cricket board (BCCI) secretary Jaywant Lele today said. As cricketers in India were from different regions and spoke different languages, there was little possibility for one player to ask another to throw his wicket away for a price, Lele said at a prize distribution function.
