India struggle into final
First, it was Pakistan and now Chinese Taipei. What Mahesh Bhupathi thought would be "vacation week" for him has turned out to be quite a grind, after all. In the semi-finals of the $ 84,000 Asia Cup against Chinese Taipei, the Indians got a solid shock before sputtering home to a 2-1 win. After splitting the singles, Bhupathi and Fazaluddin pulled off the doubles 6-4, 7-5.

Windies 249-7
West Indies were 249 for seven at close of play on the opening day of the first Test against South Africa at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Thursday.

Harikrishna wins
Pendala Harikrishna did everything to inscribe his name in Indian chess history books but in the end fell marginally short of his target. He brought down French Grandmaster Igor Alexander Nataf in the ninth round and totalled six points, which would have given him his first International Master norm if he had played in a field similar to the one Laxman managed.

Utter confusion
Tense whispers, general chaos and lot of uncertainty. Hardly what the doctor recommended for a contingent about to embark on yet another quadrennial jamboree. Mention Bangkok, and the chances are a couple of people around will start salivating. Perhaps, the name and the venue itself have a lot to do with that; it also falls in tune with the age-old story of Indian campaigns abroad: pleasure jaunts, shopping trips.
