Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will eventually have to bring the Opposition Labour Party into his government to shore up a coalition hit by Far-Right defections over his Gaza pullout plan, a senior official said on Wednesday.

Labour, a supporter of withdrawals from occupied land, has signalled it might provide Sharon with a political lifeline after he lost his parliamentary majority on Tuesday when a pro-settler minister resigned.

‘‘The government in its present structure will eventually discontinue. Eventually it will have to bring in the Labour Party,’’ the government official said, declining to say when it might join the coalition.

Meanwhile, Israel’s attorney-general will decide next week whether to indict Sharon on bribery charges, a ruling that could determine his political fate and the future of his plan to uproot settlers from Gaza.

The Justice Ministry said on Wednesday that Attorney-General Menachem Mazuz would issue a ruling ‘‘toward the 15th of the month’’. An indictment would likely force Sharon from office and derail his ‘‘disengagement’’ strategy, which his government approved in principle on Sunday.
