Indian reigning men’s national champion and world ranked No. 161 Achanta Sharath Kamal began his campaign in the 18th Asian Cup Table Tennis tournament at Siri Fort sports complex here today with a convincing win over Abdullah Walled of Qatar in Group C league match.But India’s other entry in the men’s section, Soumyadeep Roy lost to Kim Sang Soo (Korea) in the tough Group A encounter which also has Wang Hao of China, who was the runner-up at the Atlanta Olympic Games and is ranked No.5 in the world.In the women’s section round-robin matches, national champion Poulomi Ghatak began well with a win over Japan’s Hashma Nozomi in five games (5-11, 11-8, 11-6, 4-11, 12-10) but later went down to NG Sock Khim of Malaysia and Hong Kong’s Rui Zhang.Mouma Das, the former national champion and ranked 206 in the world, lost both her matches in Group B, against Tie Yana and Tan Pey Fern . China’s Wang Hao and Hao Shual beat their opponents in Group A and B, respectively.
