MUMBAI, NOV 24: Select scrips led by refinery stocks remained firm on the Bombay Stock Exchange BSE today on speculative support pushing the Sensex up by another 50 points. The rally was initially confined to the IT stocks spread to refinery and cyclical stocks on good buying support from operators. The closing rates showed widespread gains.

The BSE sensitive index opened higher at 4641.72 and gradually crossed the 4700 mark to touch at 4706.49 before closing at 4686.11 with a net gain of 49.80 points compared to the Monday8217;s close of 4636.31. The BSE-100 index rose by 24.69 points to 2221.95 from previous close of 2197.26. Brokers said that oil scrips like HPCL, BPCL, Madras Refinery and Cochin Refinery attracted fresh support on keen demand that was attributed by market sources to likely disinvestment in the near future. Besides, the sentiment was boosted on fresh buying by the FIIs mainly in stocks like Tisco, Telco, Reliance, ACC and several other IT shares. Satyam Computer was the most active scrip with a turnover of Rs 421.14 crore of the total volume of business of Rs 3009.23 crore which was sharply up from last Monday8217;s turnover of Rs 2597.29 crore.

Satyam Computer gained by Rs 19.20 to Rs 1739, Ranbaxy by Rs 45 to Rs 976, Pentafour Software by Rs 10.80 to Rs 698.80, Hindustan Lever by Rs 49 to Rs 2339, HPCL by Rs 15.75 to Rs 212.75, Reliance by Rs 3.85 to Rs 229.30, Telco by Rs 16.40 to Rs 240.90 and Tisco by Rs 11.15 to Rs 151.15. Zee Telefilms, Himachal Future, GACL, ITC, Infosys Tech, Mahindra and Mahindra and NIIT remained subdued.
