MUMBAI, June 10: A corporator of the ruling Shiv Sena in the Thane Municipal Corporation is among the first victims of the massive demolition drive launched by the Thane municipal commissioner.
After carrying out a survey of unauthorised constructions Commissioner T Chandrashekhar ordered his officers to raze them within seven days. This drastic and swift move has reportedly sent shock waves among builders and corporators allegedly engaged in unauthorised constructions in the city.Earlier, a proposal to regularise these unauthorised constructions was also shot down by the commissioner.
A senior official of the corporation claimed that even the highly influential will not be spared. As if to support this statement, a building belonging to Sena corporator Chandragupta Ghag was razed.
The drive started at Wagle Estate, considered a haven for illegal constructions. As a citizen caustically remarked, it is much easier to identify the number of unauthorised constructions than the legitimately constructed ones.
