MUMBAI, FEB 5: Select pivotals recovered on the Bombay Stock Exchange today on speculative buying coupled with fresh support extend by the FIIs. SmithKline Pharma attracted buyers ahead of its scheduled announcement of bonus and gained by Rs 41.50 to Rs 607.25. During the session, pivotals moved narrowly on alternative bouts of buying and selling in view of end-account considerations. The volume of business remained below normal. The closing undertone appeared steady.

The BSE sensitive index opened at 3339.02, touched a day high of 3366.07, low of 3336.97 before closing at 3357.48 with a modest gain of 38.29 points compared to the previous level of 3319.1. The BSE-100 index finished at 1447.98 over the last trading day8217;s close of 1435.16 gaining 12.82 points.Brokers said that the recovery was mainly due to technical considerations of the market following sharp fall in the previous session. Most of the business were of squaring up in nature as Friday being last session for the current settlement. The FIIsbought considerable amount of blue chips namely ITC, Hindustan Lever and other.

On the NSE, pivotals gained marginally on buying support from financial institutions and common investors. The NSE-50 index opened at 968.15 and closed at 976.10. Dollar NSE-50 Defty index closed at 872.60 over the last trading day8217;s close of 866.40, gaining 6.20 points. However, Midcap index declined marginally by 1.90 points to 1090.35 compared to yesterday8217;s close of 1092.25.The total turnover was Rs 1059.08 crore.
