The two Kanchi seers, Jayendra and Vijayendra Saraswathi came face to face for the first time today, since the former’s arrest nearly three months ago. The junior seer was also closeted with Appu in a police van outside with the judicial magistrate’s court; witnesses said Vijayendrar refused to talk to Appu.
The court today directed all accused in the Kanchi Sankararaman murder case, barring approver Ravi Subramaniam alias Appu, to be present before the Kancheepuram Judicial Magistrate-I court on February 24 to receive copies of the chargesheet.
Today, accused on bail — Jayendrar, Senthilkumar and R. Arumugam — were summoned by Magistrate G. Uthamaraj for alignment of dates. As soon as Vijayendrar met with Jayendrar, he touched the feet of his senior in the court hall. The two were seen talking to each other for about 15 minutes, besides exchanging a few words with senior advocate K.S. Dinakar.
The 20 accused including Vijayendrar, Raghu and Sundaresa Iyer were kept waiting outside the court hall in a police van as Jayendrar was delayed beyond 10.30 am. About half an hour later, Jayendrar arrived in a Mutt van, and on seeing it, Vijayendrar who was seated in the police van stood up, folded his hands and looked up to him reverentially, seeking his blessings. Jayendrar’s van was followed by Appu’s. Appu after alighting from his van straight went to the van in which the 20 accused were present and sat opposite Vijayendrar.
On seeing Appu enter the van, Kathiravan and Chinna got up. Witnesses said Vijayendrar did not entertain Appu when he tried to talk to him.
