Refusing to agree that the talks failed, he said: 8216;8216;We moved one step further. Last year, they discussed our first proposal and it failed when a person obtained an interim court stay. This time the Kashi and Mathura issue, which we pointed in our letter, has created some doubts.8217;8217; In his letter to the AIMPLB, the Shankaracharya had said that it8217;s a historical fact that Babur constructed a building at the site to commemorate his victory. He went on to say that Kashi, Mathura and Ayodhya, all three, are considered holy by the Hindus. If the 8216;8216;disputed sites8217;8217; are given over to the Hindus, sometime in the future, if not today, that would go a long way towards generating goodwill among the Hindus for the Muslims, he said. He wondered when the Wakf Board donates properties for various charitable institutions, why doesn8217;t it do so in the case of the disputed site in Ayodhya too.
He stressed that Muslim leaders should not 8216;8216;be adamant but must adopt a give-and-take policy with a view to maintaining communal harmony in the country.8217;8217; 8216;8216;The Muslims can instill confidence in the Hindus by donating the land.8221;
