MUMBAI, AUG 28: The Director General of Police Arvind Inamdar today said that there has been absolutely no cut in the security cover provided to Chhagan Bhujbal, leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council.

8220;Neither has the security cover provided been withdrawn nor has it been reduced in any manner. Since Bhujbal is in the Z category, the security cover is provided according to the requirements of the said category,8221; Inamdar told The Indian Express.

In a letter to the Governor P C Alexander, Bhujbal had lodged a strong protest against the withdrawal of his security cover without any reasons. On the complaint which was also addressed to Chief Electoral Officer D K Sankaran, the DGP said the Nationalist Congress Party leader had apparently urged the security cover provided to him by the Mumbai police be extended to cover all of Maharashtra.

8220;Under the existing practice, the Mumbai police is providing him security within the limits of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation as well as up toThane and Palghar. Once the limit is over, security officials from the respective districts take over. Bhujbal will never travel without a security cover as that of the Mumbai police is not withdrawn unless their counterparts take over,8221; Inamdar added.He also said if the demand of Bhujbal is accepted, the Mumbai police will face a difficult situation: 8220;If all leaders make a similar demand, then no police official will be left to take on even routine work.8221;

Meanwhile, a high-level team comprising Chief Secretary A Bongirwar, Addl Chief Secretary Home V Rangnathan, Chief Electoral Officer D K Sankaran and Inamdar reviewed the preparations for the simultaneous polls.
