With minutes to go for the hooter, Pakistan frittered away what would have been a golden chance to make the final of the Olympic qualifiers when they lost their semifinals to Spain 2-3 here today. Today’s loss meant that Pakistan will once again take on their subcontinental neighbours in the match for the third place on the same day when their cricket team plays first of their ODI India in Karachi. Spain were put ahead by Eduard Tabua but Pak restored parity through Shakeel Abbasi. Tabua struck again for 2-1 lead but Mudassar Ali Khan equalised in the 67th minute before the Pakistanis let in a goal by Santiago Freixa in the next minute to let Spain into the final.
