LUCKNOW, JANUARY 10: All fancied players, both in the men and women’s sections, sailed into the second round of the open events of the 61st Sahara National Table Tennis Championships at the Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Stadium hall on Monday.

After two days of qualifying rounds, 52 players made it to the main draw. With top four seeds in both categories getting byes into the second round, the day passed off without any surprise.

Deepak Thukral (Punjab) also took almost an hour to beat Pankaj Satpathy of Orissa in four games. Vinay Baiswade of Madhya Pradesh conceded his match to Subhajit Saha of PSCB Academy after the third game.

Sharjeel Imam has filed an interim bail plea to contest the Bihar assembly elections as an independent candidate while being in Tihar Jail for his alleged involvement in the 2020 Delhi riots. He claims to have no political party support and his younger brother is the only one helping him. The Delhi Police Special Cell has accused him of radical and communal activities.
