The rally began with a professional singer reciting Prime Minister Atal Behari’s poem: Kabhie Ek The Hum Huye Aaj Itane, Nahi Tab Dare To Bhala Ab Darenge. By the time the rally wound up at the New English School grounds on Tilak Road, it was clear the PM needed to be wary of parivar.

The mammoth rally organised by the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) and Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM), here targeted the NDA government for its stand on economic policies and labour issues.

Senior RSS leader and founder of BMS Dattopant Thengdi issued a terse warning to the Vajpayee government on Wednesday that the outcome of the next Parliament elections would not be favourable to the government if it continued to ‘‘hurt the Indian masses by adopting anti-poor policies due to pressure from foreign powers’’.

Thengdi, without mentioning the BJP, said the ruling party should at least think for itself while deciding policies.

Thousands of BMS, BKS and SJM workers from all parts of the state had gathered here to take part in the morcha. The rally, raising slogans against the government and WTO, culminated at the New English School grounds on Tilak Road. Thengdi and several RSS leaders addressed the gathering.

BMS has organised similar rallies at 38 places in the country on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The rally was organised as a part of the BMS’ nationwide agitation against WTO.
