After a gap of more than a month, master batsman Sachin Tendulkar played a practice tie on Friday with his Mumbai Indians teammates at the Bandra-Kurla complex of the Mumbai Cricket Association.

“Tendulkar batted, though he did not score many runs, and more importantly fielded for the entire duration of 20 overs. But he did not bowl. The team (consisting of 26 members) was split into two and a T20 match played,” said the team’s adviser and TV commentator Harsha Bhogle.

Media persons were kept out of bounds when the match was played and speculations continued whether he would play his first match in the Indian Premier League on Sunday.

“He’s still not 100 per cent (fit). He would not play the match if he’s not fully fit. He will wait and see how he feels on the morrow,” Bhogle said.

Tendulkar played in the Chennai Test, held in end-March, against South Africa and aggravated the groin injury sustained towards the end of the tri-series won by India in Australia.

The champion batsman is out of action since then, having missed the last two Tests against the Proteas and the first five ties of the IPL for Mumbai Indians, owned by Reliance Industries, of which he is the skipper and icon player.
