CHANDIGARH, April 23: The Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund (OECF), Japan, has assured a financial support of Rs 1,800 crore for Haryana power sector reform project, a HSEB spokesman said here today. This financial support would be available in two to three instalments, he said.
A mission from OECF is presently in the state to appraise the project for strengthening transmission and distribution systems of the state, he said. The loan would be announced after a meeting between the governments of Japan and India at the India Aid club meeting in Tokyo in June this year, he added.The appraisal mission is headed by Nobuyuki Tanaka, deputy director, technical, OECF, and assisted by Ryohei Hirota, Country Officer( India, Bhutan) Operations Department, OECF, Japan.
The CECF fact-finding mission scrutinised the project in January this year and the overall project was segregated, so as to complete in two or more phases, the spokesman said.
Orders for the first phase of transmission and districution works with an estmated cost of Rs 505 crore had been proposed to the OECF.
Some of the major activities covered under this project include construction of one 220 kv, ten 132 kv, nine 66 kv and twenty 33 kv sub-stations, construction of associated transmission lines, augmentation of 32 existing grid sub-stations, rehabilitation of sub- station switchyards, rehabilitation and extension of 11 kv and distribution system, modernisation of workshops and procurement of modern construction and maintenance tools, the spokesman further said.
He said that this is the third power project to be financed by EECF in Haryana. Earlier, the Western Yamuna Canal Hydro-electric Project was constructed with OECF assitance.
It is presently financing another project for rehabilitation of transmission and distribution systems in Kurukshetra district with an estimated cost of Rs 32.74 crore, the spokesman added.
