SURAT, March 17: The Central government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 1 crore for effective implementation of revised national tuberculosis control programme in the district. A district leprosy-cum-tuberculosis society has already been formed to carry out the project initiated by the Central government in association with the World Bank.
Out of the sanctioned amount, Rs 57 lakh has been allotted so far. The society held its first meeting, under the chairmanship of District Development Officer B N Joshi, which decided to celebrate March 24 as Tuberculosis Day on district and taluka levels to create an awareness among the public about the the disease and ensure their participation.
