A roadside altercation near the cantonment town of Kasauli proved fatal for fighter pilot Anubhav Rao. On Friday evening, he was stabbed by Hari Dass Tanwar, after his car overtook that of the advocate. Flight Lieutenant Sameer Yadav was also injured when he tried to save his friend.
Police later arrested Tanwar, an advocate practising in the Kasauli court, from his native Mushwara village. The advocate, who has been booked on charges of murder, was on Sunday remanded in police custody till April 16.
Narrating the sequence of events, Additional Superintendent of Police S R Rana said Rao and Yadav, accompanied by friends Shankar Ghosh and Ashish Chauhan, were on their way to Shimla from Ambala when they decided to take a detour and halt at Kasauli.
But near Garkhal they had an argument with Tanwar, whose car was not letting them pass ahead. Later, near Mashobra, Rao’s vehicle over took Tanwar’s car and another argument ensued. During the altercation, Tanwar allegedly took out a knife and stabbed Anubhav on his right thigh. As Rao fell unconscious, Yadav tried to drag him back, but was allegedly assaulted by Tanwar on his left arm and waist.
The ASP said Rao’s friends soon rushed the injured men to the Military Hospital in Kasauli. But the doctors in Kasauli referred Rao to the Command Hospital in Chandimandir, where doctors declared him dead. Rao was posted as Flight Lieutenant in Ambala. The police said his body has been handed over to relatives. The pilot’s post mortem report is awaited.
