As speculation is rife about early Lok Sabha elections, key UPA constituent RJD has begun preparations for the polls.
The party, headed by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, has called crucial party meetings beginning this week to chalk out the strategy in view of the emerging national political scene.
The party will hold office-bearers meeting here on June 28 which will be followed by the National Executive on July four at Bodhgaya in Bihar.
The decision was taken at a meeting Prasad held with senior party leaders here on Saturday.
At the upcoming meetings, the party will deliberate on the current political situation in the country and plans its strategy.
“The agenda of the meetings is to assess the position of RJD in different states and to deliberate on future course of action for the party,” RJD spokesman Shyam Rajak told PTI.
The meetings assume significance as speculation is rife about possibility of Lok Sabha elections taking place before schedule in view of intense stand-off between Government and its Left allies.
Prasad, who disfavours early elections, has been making efforts to resolve the impasse between Congress and Left.
Commenting on the Congress’ A K Antony committee report which reportedly suggested that the party should go alone in the assembly polls, Rajak said no party in the country is now strong enough to form a government of its own.
“Certain things are just for the sake of formality,” Rajak said, appearing dismissive about the recommendations.
