Finally, the Defence Estate Office, Ambala, has taken notice of law violation and initiated legal proceedings for resumption of the Masonic Lodge, the much publicised palatial lodge of Punjab Public Service Commission Chairman Ravinder Pal Singh Sidhu, at Kasauli in Solan district.
The Defence Estate Office has constituted a three-member resumption committee for taking action against Sidhu for allegedly violating the Cantonment Board laws which prohibit all types of renovation of old and new buildings as well as new construction without prior permission of concerned authorities within the limits of the cantonment area.
Kasauli Tehsildar J. C. Sharma, one of the members of the committee, said here today that the committee had already held two meetings in this connection. It has slapped a show-cause notice on Sidhu asking why the Masonic Lodge should not be resumed for alleged violation of the laws by doing fresh construction.
Sharma said that Sidhu had sought permission from the Cantonment Board for making minor renovation of his bungalow. However, he dismantled the lodge and built it afresh without seeking permission of the board authorities. After dismantling the bungalow, Sidhu constructed a two-storeyed building. And he allegedly went ahead with the construction despite notices from the board. Kasauli Cantonment Board Estate Officer J. N. Mathur was not available for comments as to why action had been initiated now even though the construction work went on for more than two long years. The Defence Estate Officer, Ambala, was also not available.
Sharma said the committee was awaiting Sidhu’s reply. If needed, Sidhu would be asked to appear before the committee personally to explain his position, failing which action would be initiated under provisions of the laws.
