FAZILKA: The Fazilka Police have busted a gang of vehicle lifters and recovered four motorcycles, a tractor-trolley and a rifle from them. Five persons have been arrested in this connection. The police said that the arrest of Bachan Singh of Dhakuwala village, from whose possession a stolen Yamaha motorcycle was recovered, led to other arrests.

SOLAN: The police arrested two persons and recovered 50 quintals of Khair wood, which they were carrying without any documents at Ramsahar road near Nalagarh today. A police party intercepted a mini truck and on inspection found the Khair wood concealed in it. Munshi Ram and Ved Parkash were arrested but the driver managed to escape. The vehicle has been impounded and police have registered a case.

SOLAN: A 35-year-old house wife was allegedly killed by her husband at Tikkari village under Nalagarh police station in this district, early morning today. SSP, M.L. Negi said Avtar Singh allegedly hacked his wife, Manjeet Kaur, with an axe. DSP Nalagrh, Rani Sachdeva, who rushed to the seen succeeded in nabbing the culprit. Further investigations were on. Negi said constant marital discord had been ascribed as the cause of the murder.

PATIALA: Members of the Punjab State Karamchari Dal will hold a meeting at Ludhiana on May 30 to raise the demands of different sections of employees. According to the district president of the Dal, Kulbir Singh Saidkheri, the employees are demanding category-wise release of the Punjab Pay Commission report. They also want the report to be implemented in different boards and corporations.

New Timings
MOGA: In view of the severe heat conditions, the district magistrate, Faridkot, Gurinder Singh Grewal, today issued fresh orders effecting a change in the school timings in the district. According to the orders, all primary schools will remain open from 7.30 am to 11.30 am and middle, high and senior secondary schools will remain open from 7.30 am to 12.30 pm. The orders come into force with immediate effect.

SHIMLA: Vidya Stokes, former speaker of state Assembly and a senior Congress leader of the state has been inducted in 6 member election panel of the party, set up by Congress president Sonia Gandhi. The committee is headed by N.D. Tiwari. The other members include K.H. Muniaapa, Mannoranjan Bhakta, B.K. Hemchque and Lalit Bhasin.

Mishap
SOLAN : One person died on the spot when a Maruti car in which he was travelling collided head on with a Haryana Roadway bus near Khann watch factory at Parwanoo. The deceased has been identified as Anwar Khan (28), resident of Burail in Punjab. The bus was on its way from Shimla to Delhi. A case has been registered.

Nepali resident sentenced
SUNDERNAGAR : Shamsher Singh, additional district and session Judge of Mandi has sentenced Deep Kumar of Nepal to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs One lakh. Disclosing this DSP Gurmit Singh, told ENS Deep Kumar was nabbed with more than 13kgs of charas at Sundernagar last year.

Bhadhar Singh, resident of Jugahan village, arrested in connection with the murder of his 30-year-old wife Krishana was remanded to police custody till May 28 by a Mandi based judicial magistrate on May 25.
