MUMBAI, OCT 18: She’s got that right mix beauty and brains that can win a million hearts, especially those of the TV audience. After Yug, Samjhauta and Mahabharat, now Reena Wadhwa — with her latest appearance as the audacious Shefali Rane in the soap Neeyat (Zee TV), which she also produces — is out to give her contemporaries a run for their money.

This writer found her in high spirits at her Nariman Point office. And, over a strong cup of coffee she came out excited and enthusiastic to discuss about Neeyat. It happens to be her first project as independent producer under her banner Karnik communications — named after her kids Karan and Nikita.

“I turned producer only to fulfill my desire to act and do the kind of roles that I want to,” admits Reena. For those who haven’t kept a track of Neeyat here’s it in one-line. It’s about this girl Shefali whose mother dumps her family to get into the glamorous world of films and when Shefali grows up takes up, she takes to samecareer with vengeance in her heart and snatches away everything from her mother.

Reena is hopeful the role will bring out her histrionic capabilities. “If Neeyat doesn’t do anything for me nothing can help,” she confesses, quite honestly.

And diametrically opposite to Shefali is her character of Sanjana in her second home production Ek Mulakat, which should hit the air by November-end on Star TV channel.

Reena is rembered for her role in Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi as the chirpy daughter of Farida Jalal. She got married after the Zindagi became a success on the small screen on the persistence of her parents to settle into the groove as housewife.

Reena, though, was not one to give up. She kept hammering her husband Ashok about her obsession. Then came her second innings, flagged off with Sattee Shourie’s Yug where she starred as freedom fighter Ratna.

Though the break that sends one spinning into the firmament eluded her despite having 150 episodes behind her. The rolesshe subsequently got were forgettable ones in serials like Betaal Pachisi and Samjhauta.

One thing she could never do, she asserts, is “choona lagao” the directors and producers. That’s when she decided to put up her own software company, she says with an uncommon determination.
