As Holland’s batting subsided in alarming fashion against Sri Lanka’s tighter bowling and fielding, the ACU might ‘investigate’ some of the palpably appalling strokeplay applied by the Dutch batsman.

Dismissed for 86 to lose to Sri Lanka by 206 runs, with Muttiah Muralitharan taking four for fifteen in 5.3 overs, it was, says their captain, Roland Lefebvre “Just an experience to be at the tournament let alone face the world class wizard Muralitharan”.

Under the circumstances they were quite happy to keep Sri Lanka under 300. There were those predicting a world record score of 400 plus, with Sri Lanka surpassing the 398 scored against Kenya at Asgiriya in Kandy in 1996.
