Unable to come to terms with her gangrape a month ago, a sixteen-year-old girl here committed suicide on Monday. Her suicide note says she couldn’t take any more mental stress.
According to Itmad-ud-Daullah Police Station Officer S.P. Singh, the victim, a student of the local school in village Chokada in P.S. Barhan area of Agra, was abducted from her school by four youths of her village who later gangraped her.
The girl identified the boys and two of them are still in jail. Singh says after the incident, the victim left the village to live with her brother Brijraj in Shyam Nagar. Reportedly she could not bring herself to forget the incident and kept herself locked in her room, studying for hours on end. On Monday, when Brijraj was leaving for Jalesar for some work, he did not disturb her for the girl usually woke up late.
However, when he returned in the evening, the door was still locked. Brijraj then broke into the room, only to find that his sister had killed herself by hanging from the ceiling fan.
The house remained locked today with Brijraj out of town. When asked about the incident, his neighbours refused to talk. While confirming the suicide, Agra SSP D.S. Chauhan said he doesn’t know about the gangrape as he has joined recently.
