Aug 11: India’s Jyoti Randhawa went on a three-hole birdie binge after bogeying the opening one to stay on course before lightning halted play at the Malaysia Masters Golf tournament here on Friday.

The Wills Indian Open champion, after a round of 67 yesterday, was two-under after six holes on a day that witnessed a dazzling display by Korea’s Anthony Kang.

The Korean, one of the 71 players who could not complete the first round due to heavy rains and thunderstorms on Thursday, carded an amazing eight-under-par 64 and then followed it up with seven-under-par 65 in the second round to grab a six-shot clubhouse lead at Kota Permai Golf and Country Club here.

The 28-year-old Indian took six shots for the par-5 first hole before birding the next three. He parred fifth and sixth to be on two-under-21 and will start his round Saturday from where he left today.

Kang took just 45 minute break to start his second round and rode on the momentum and reeled in eight birdies against one bogey for a two-day total of 15-under-par 129.

American Andrew Pitts, already a two-time runner-up this season, could find himself in the bridesmaid’s role again if the leader keeps his foot firmly on the gas. Pitts, who also had to finish his first round this morning, signed scores of 68-67 for a nine-under 135 aggregate.

Kang and Pitts were among the 68 players who managed to complete their second rounds as lightning forced play to be suspended at 5.30 local time. Sixty-nine players will return tomorrow to finish their second 18 holes.
